While I haven't yet totally thrown out paper towels, I keep both paper and unpaper towels on my (small) counter, and remind myself to think first when I reach to grab one. Trying to train myself to use the paper only rarely. Yes, the unpaper ones do soften and become more absorbent as you wash them. Also, people with stainless steel appliances take note: Paper towels can scratch stainless finishes. (I've been told this by more than one installer.) One more good reason to keep flannel in the kitchen! So, try some!
